Experience
I took an immediate liking to physics because I realized it governed all my movements in real life... not just on paper. I excelled with physics in high school and college but used it most when I became a professional snowboarder. I have been featured in: BusinessInsider.com for creative furniture designs, ESPN/ABC/NBC for Snowboarding, and the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Science for an idea that utilized robotics and neuroscience. I like physics because you are IN the laws of physics. Always. And once you understand the forces at work, any type of movement becomes more interesting. I teach physics by taking a principle, isolating it and showing how it applies to the student in some sort of simple activity (balancing on one leg, sliding on ice, jumping, etc.) And once the student can "feel" or see that force at work, I show how the mathematical equation succinctly describes it. I used my thorough understanding of physics to "hack" my way into the X-Games, U.S. Snowboard Team and FIS World Cup. I'm also an example how learning a subject like physics can benefit your student outside the world of desks and school. (If the student has an interest in a particular sport, please notify me).
